In Scandinavia, there’s a well-known saying: “There’s no bad weather, only bad clothing.”
It’s a phrase that rings true—when you’re dressed for the elements, you can handle anything from rain to snow, frost, or even gusty winds. Interestingly, this concept can also apply to manicures.
When you have groomed and polished nails, even the most challenging tasks feel slightly more straightforward. There’s something undeniably uplifting about glancing down at beautifully manicured hands, even if you’re scraping Ice off your car in the dead of winter.

Angelina Jolie’s Icy Ombré Manicure at 2025 Golden Globes
For her latest manicure, Angelina Jolie took inspiration from this idea, blending sophistication with a frosty, wintry vibe. She debuted an icy ombré French manicure design at the 2025 Golden Globes. Though the Los Angeles weather was anything but chilly, the look had an undeniable cool factor that would have turned heads in any climate, anywhere in the world. The stunning design was crafted by Elle Gerstein, a renowned nail artist and a frequent collaborator of Jolie’s. Gerstein used one of her favorite shades from Aprés Nail called Maybe…, which Jolie had recently showcased in a chic nude jelly look. This versatile shade provided the perfect base for an understated ombré effect that transitioned seamlessly into straightforward tips.

To complete the manicure, Gerstein used Aprés’ Non-Wipe Glossy Top Gelcoat for a high-shine finish, followed by a touch of their Winter Returns Cuticle Serum for added moisture and a healthy glow. In an Instagram post, Gerstein shared her inspiration for the look: “My goal was to keep her nails sheer but with an icy touch.” She even nicknamed the style the “mannequin manicure,” emphasizing its timeless elegance and universal appeal—a look that pairs effortlessly with anything, whether casual or formal.
At the event, Jolie’s nails were perfectly paired with a dazzling gown—the closing piece from the Paris McQueen Spring/Summer 2025 runway show. The ensemble was stunning, but Gerstein’s artistry ensured the nails were just as eye-catching.

Perhaps it’s time to revise that old saying: “There’s no bad outfit, only bad nail art.” Jolie’s manicure proves that much like the perfect outfit, a well-executed manicure can elevate your confidence and style no matter the weather or occasion. Gerstein wisely said, “You’re never fully dressed without a manicure.”
